Healthy skin reflects what? If you answered inner health and outer beauty than you answered correctly. Your skin is the largest organ of your body and thus you must treat it well and take care of it from the inside as well as the outside. How do you do that you might be asking? The answer is simple; you need to feed your inner body good nutrition, maintain a healthy lifestyle, protect your outer body from environmental exposure, and replenish moisture.

The main ingredients in the make up of your skin are elastin and collagen and these two staples make your skin strong and wrinkle free. As you mature in wisdom and grace these two ingredients lessen and that causes your skin to wrinkle. If you want to help ward off wrinkles then you must help rebuild collagen. Again, you might be asking how do you do that and again the answer can be found in good nutrition by the way of foods high in natural vitamins and anti-oxidants. Mother Nature is so good to us; she provides everything we need if only we would stop and eat better. You thought I was going to say to stop and smell the roses didn’t you? Well, you need to do that too and we will talk about that later.

At this point you might be thinking how do we know all about this and the answer to that thought would be that I am a Certified Nurse Practitioner and I own my own medical office for women in California and I specialize in women’s health care and in nutrition. Women’s health and nutrition have been a passion of mine for over 20 years and yes I am only 46. Not only that but this summer I am proud to be partnering with Darlene Crumbaugh Independent Skin care Consultant with Rodan and Fields Dermatologists. Together I think we make a dynamic duo and it is our honor to teach you about better skin care and nutrition this summer. The pairing of two is poetic as the two areas go hand in hand.

Darlene Crumbaugh

Let’s stay on tract and get back to the topic at hand. We mentioned above that you need to replenish your skin’s moisture to help keep it looking vibrant and glowing. This can be accomplished by getting enough water in your body per day. The recommended amount is to drink half your body weight in ounces per day. Also protecting your skin from environmental toxins with good skin care is essential. As we mature in wisdom and grace you want skin care products that help your skin do the same and that help it retain its moisture. Check out Darlene’s line at http://luvurskin.myrandf.com by the doctors who created Proactiv. I personally like the SOOTHE line because as I am going through the change my skin is having some irritation issues and I am looking for products that can help heal it and not aggravate it. The REVERSE line is also pretty compelling as it’s clinically designed to erase or ‘reverse’ the damage we’ve all done at some point in our lives when going out in the sun with no protection. Remember those baby oil and iodine days when you were younger? The damage you did then can be seen in your skin today through premature aging, dullness, brown spots and collagen loss.

Key nutrients are also needed for a glowing and vibrant complexion and eating them and getting them into your body is the best way to keep your skin healthy and strong. The FDA now recommends that we eat 9-14 servings of fruit and veggies a day and in reality most of us can’t or won’t if we are truthful with ourselves. I eat very healthy and I still have a hard time getting them all down on a daily basis. Why are fruits and veggies so important? They provide the key ingredients from Mother Nature that work synergistically to improve collagen synthesis and production and most importantly they help remove free radicals that damage skin and cause it to age by providing anti-oxidant protection. As a medical provider I have researched many and I mean many products that people bring to me everyday and the one that I chose to endorse is called Juice Plus. I did two years of research on this product and on the company behind it and the doctor that created the product and it is the product of choice for me and my family and for my patients. Check it out at www.mblovesjuiceplus.com and get the full scoop on the power of fruit and veggies.

To sum it all up a lifestyle of better nutrition and good skin care can enhance your skin’s life span exponentially. The look and condition of your skin is largely controlled by what you eat and by how you take care of your skin. Contact Darlene for a great skin care regime at http://luvurskin.myrandf.com or 704-256-4646 and Contact Michele at www.mblovesjuiceplus.com or 951-304-3180 to show you an easy and convenient way to get down your 9-14 servings of fruit and veggies a day for less than 1.49 a day.

One of the cross marketing projects assigned to participants is a 3 part joint business or lifestyle column.

California business woman Michele Broad and North Carolina business woman Darlene Crumbaugh were paired up to create a lifestyle column.
They stepped up to the challenge to create a unique lifestyle / business column that merged their direct sales companies by providing consumer and business information.

By Jamie K. Fleischner, CLU, ChFC

President, Set for Life Insurance

Most of us become very dependent on the things we love and wonder how we could have ever lived without it. Imagine having to wash your clothes by hand. Or remember the days of the pay phone? Personally, I can’t imagine how I ever survived without my beloved iPhone! Sometimes even our luxuries feel like necessities.

To take care of our important assets that we couldn’t live without, we leverage our risk with insurance. This includes homeowner’s insurance, auto insurance, and even life insurance.

However, have you considered covering your most valuable asset—your income? Imagine surviving without your income. How would you survive? Do you have enough money in savings to cover you if you couldn’t work for 6 months? What about 2 years? Or longer?! Most people overlook protecting their income. However, most people could not survive without it.

Chances of becoming disabled are actually pretty steep. Between ages 30 and 65, a third of us will become disabled. Yet most people don’t take care of this need. It’s much more likely to happen than a flood or fire to your home and the ramifications are much greater.

Disability insurance is designed to pay you a monthly benefit if you become sick or injured and can’t work. A personal policy is non taxable (if paid with after tax dollars) and typically kicks in after a waiting period of 90 days or longer. You may choose a benefit period of 5 years, age 65 and lifetime. The longer the period, the more expensive the policy.

There are various types of definitions and policy provisions. These include definition of disability (try to purchase a policy that covers you if you couldn’t work in your specific occupation), partial disability, inflation riders, and the ability to purchase more in the future without further medical underwriting.

It is important to work with an expert that can help guide you through the process and find the most suitable policy for your needs. The underwriting process requires a look at your previous medical history and a paramedical exam (blood and urine test). Look for an independent broker that works with multiple companies instead of an agent that will only show you one company that may or may not be the best fit for you.

Premiums will vary based on gender, age, occupation, geographic location and policy definitions and riders. Rates are 30-40% higher for women than men based on risk. However, there are ways to create discounts if more than 3 people from the same employer apply. Also look for discounts available through membership associations. Plan on spending approximately 1-3% of your gross income to protect 60-75% of your take home pay.

For more information about protecting your most valuable asset, contact Set for Life Insurance at 888-553-3559 or visit www.setforlifeinsurance.com. You’ll be glad your income is protected. It’s hard to survive without it.

Change will not come if we wait for some other person or some other time. We are the ones we’ve been waiting for. We are the change that we seek. — Barack Obama

The world stopped on January 20 to watch the 44th president, Barack Obama, get sworn into office. During his speech he told everyone that we need to “pick ourselves up, dust ourselves off, and begin again the work.” It is going to take all of us working together to fix this financial mess.

We have to start creating new opportunities for ourselves by effectively marketing our companies to boost our bottom-lines and outsourcing work so we can direct the flow of money into the women in business community. A lot of self-employed women have had to step up to the plate as the bread winner because their spouse has been laid off. It is more important than ever for us to cross market, engage in JVs, and form alliances.

Marketing 2 Women International and its partner companies are here to help you navigate through the recession. Contact us if we can be of service to you. Please post your introduction in the comment section.
